ABOUT ME

Susan Berg was born in Seattle, Washington in 1944.  She studied painting at the National Art Academy, Oslo, Norway in 1965-67 and received her Bachelor of Arts in 1968 from the University of Washington.  She also studied fresco painting at the Palazzo Spinelli in Florence, Italy in 2002.

Susan's gallery shows have included The Argile Gallery, London; The Fountainhead Gallery, Seattle; and the Simon Edwards Gallery, Yakima.  Honors include representation at the Puget Sound Area Exhibition, Frye Museum, Seattle; a merit award from the Casper Arts Guild, Casper, Wyoming; and representation at Watermedia, Billings, Montana.

While her current pieces include still-life paintings of pearls, shells and sea life, Susan was deeply inspired by her recent visit to northern Norway and is at work on a series of landscape paintings derived from her plein air work on the island of Helligvaer.  There, she sensed the

presence of the giants from the Sagas of the Islanders in the enormous mountains rising up from the sea and she was amazed by the pristine aquamarine color of the shallows between the islands, an effect of the very blue sky above the the startling white sand below.  These shapes and colors are the compass of her paintings at 68 degrees north--and, of course, she relies on her own Viking blood for guidance.

Susan currently lives in Seattle with her husband, Ron, and her cat, Gemma.
